13 Simple Mother's Day Cards to Make (Part 1)

Mother’s Day is coming to all the heroic ladies in this world — Moms. This day celebrates how amazing and special they are for being women and being mothers of children. They, undoubtedly, deserve all sweet sayings and a remarkable moment on this special day. So, stick with us in this post to learn how to make your mom happy on Mother’s Day!

Get ready to wow mum with a stunning handmade card this Mother's Day. Introducing 13 beautiful card ideas that are simple to make and that don't break the bank!

With a whole variety of projects suitable for beginners, choose your project, grab some coloured pens, toppers and whatever you want to decorate with and get crafting!

 

1. Flower Wreath Card

Step 1: Fold your card in half

Step 2: Turn your folded card landscape and draw a circle in the centre.

Step 3: In the centre of the circle, write 'Happy Mother's Day.'

Step 4: Next, cut your tissue paper into quarters to form multiple smaller squares

Step 5: Then take 2/3 different colour squares and layer them in a pile

Step 6: To create your flower take your tissue paper and pinch from the middle to form a bunch

Step 7: Continue to pinch and twist the tissue paper till a stem forms.

Step 8: Create multiple flowers to fill the circle you have drawn on your card. Then using the glue, stick the flowers to the circle to form the wreath.

Step 9: Continue this until the wreath is full.

 

 

2. Balloon Heart Card

Step 1: Fold your card in half

Step 2: Next, draw two hearts on the front of your card.

Step 3: Then taking your different coloured card and craft punch. Create a pile of confetti hearts.

Step 4: After you have a pile of confetti go back to your card and put some glue within the hearts, you have drawn.

Step 5: Next, take your confetti and place it onto the glue and fill your heart until no gaps remain. To turn your hearts into balloons using a felt tip. Draw a wiggly line from the tip of the heart to the bottom of your card.

Step 6: Then to finish your card off write 'Happy Mother's Day' or 'MUM' on the top of the card

 

 

 

3. Easel Card for Mothers Day

Step 1: To make the easel part of the card you will need two card blanks. Leave one whole and one cut and folded as follows. At the middle crease measure approximately 4.5cm and make another crease fold upwards creating a mountain fold then trim off the overhang.

Step 2: Fold a piece of kraft card into a v shape as shown in the photo then draw and cut out a cone, you will need to trim the bottom off to fit nicely into the crease of the easel card.

Step 3: Attach the cone to the front of the whole card blank and fill with wooden flowers fixing some in place with 3d foam pads and some with glue.

Step 4: Place the whole card over the top of the prepared mountain folded card and fix in place with double sided tape. Stamp out the sentiment onto white card then trim a small fishtail into each end before fixing to the very front of the easel.

Step 5: Fussy cut a small tag shape then fix a tiny red heart to the front, make a hole in the end and thread through a piece of twine – make a bow and glue to the front of the cone to finish.

 

 

 

 4. Gatefold Mother's Day Card

Step 1: Start with two 6 x 6” white card blanks. Cut one side of each card down to 7cm wide.

Step 2: Lay one larger side on top of the other fixing in place with double sided tape creating a gatefold.

Step 3: Cover the front of each 7cm flap with plain pink cardstock off-cuts from your stash, then layer a panel of slightly smaller patterned paper on top.
Step 4: Fussy-cut or die cut two heart shapes, one in plain cardstock and another in patterned paper gluing the two together for added stability.
Step 5: Adhere small white paper flowers around the edge of the heart along with a pink butterfly using tacky glue. Attach the heart to the left front flap only so that the card can still be opened.

Step 6: Take the MUM stickers from the sheet and stick them onto a piece of scrap cardstock. Fussy-cut around the edge of each letter; doing this will add extra stability. Fix each of the letters to the centre of the heart using 3d foam pads.Adhere a sentiment sticker underneath the MUM greeting, along with a few more of the butterfly toppers. To complete the design, as a sprinkling of pink pearls.

 

 

 

5. Mother's Day Balloon Card

Step 1: Trim a panel of kraft cardstock to 14.8 x 9 cm. Doodle the balloon basket just below where the wooden balloon will sit. Add a handwritten sentiment below.

Step 2: Use 3D foam pads to fix the kraft panel to the front of a prepared 14.8 x 10 x 5cm card blank. Fussy-cut three cloud shapes using white textured cardstock and fix to the top of the panel.

Step 3: To complete the card attach a wooden balloon embellishment.

 

 

6. Rainbow Butterfly Card

Step 1: Stamp out the sentiment in the bottom right corner. Then, draw a black line all the way around the front of a top folding 6x6” white card blank; add a few squiggly lines here and there.

Hand draw the antenna toward the top centre.

Step 2: Draw and cut out seven butterflies in rainbow colours and white.

Step 3: Starting with the purple butterfly, fold it in half then glue at the fold only, and fix to the centre of the card front then allow this to dry.

Step 4: Repeat with all the other colours finishing with the white.

 

 

 

7. 'Mum to Be' Vase Card

Step 1: Cover the entire front of an A6 card blank with peach coloured card.

Step 2: Attach a panel of white card to the card blank using 3d foam pads. Make the panel approximately 1 cm smaller than the card base. Draw a few stems using a black fine liner.

 

Step 3: Draw and cut out the vase shape, stamp out the sentiment onto kraft card then trim into a tag shape and make a small hole in the end. Attach this around the vase using thread secured on the reverse with some tape.
Fix the vase to the card front using more 3d foam pads.

 

Step 4: Add a flower to each stem to finish.

 

 

8. Pompom Heart Card

Step 1: Place two pipe cleaners next to each other and twist together at both ends.Take one twisted end and gently fold it back on itself bringing it towards the bottom end, this will create your heart shape.

Step 2: Using tape gently stick the pipe cleaner heart into place on the front of the card. You don't want to use much tape at this point, maybe four bits, at the two twists and at the top of both heart 'arches'.

Step 3: Run some glue under the pipe cleaner heart, adding more tape to hold it in place as you go, until the whole heart is attached to the card, leave to dry.
Step 4: Once the glue is dry remove all the tape. Fill the centre of the heart with soft fluffy pom poms, you can go for a pattern or make it completely random, leave to dry.

Step 5: Once dry add a message to the front of the card, maybe referring to Mummy's soft squishy heart, or keeping it simple like I have and just adding the word Mummy.
